Tree removal and pruning in Avondale Heights, done properly
In Avondale Heights (3034) a quote is easy to fit in, and the crew arrives with everything on the truck. Tree and palm removal, hazard pruning, canopy lifting and crown thinning are the bulk of what we do here, all under a qualified arborist and fully insured.
The nearest suburbs we also cover are Maidstone (3 km), Maribyrnong (3 km), Braybrook (3 km), so a job in Avondale Heights is often paired with one next door. 2 of the reviews on this site are from customers in Maidstone, Maribyrnong and Braybrook, next door to Avondale Heights.
Palms are their own job. They are heavy for their size, the fronds and seed pods are a mess, and the trunk fibre blunts saws. We take them down in short sections with the rigging set up so nothing lands where it should not, and we take the trunk away rather than leaving you with something that will not burn and will not rot.
Storm-damaged and dangerous trees get priority. A split trunk, a hung-up limb or a tree that has started to lean gets assessed the same day where we can, made safe, and then either removed or reduced depending on what is left of it. Api will tell you honestly whether a damaged tree in Avondale Heights can be saved.

A tip from Api
If you are thinking about removing a healthy tree because it is messy or shading the garden, ask about a reduction or a canopy lift first. It is often cheaper, it keeps the value and shade a mature tree adds to a Avondale Heights property, and it avoids the permit question entirely for many trees.

Do you need a permit to remove a tree in Avondale Heights?
Before anything is cut in Avondale Heights, the permit question comes first, and the answer depends on Moonee Valley City Council.
Moonee Valley’s Activities and General Amenities Local Law 2018 (clause 4.31.1) says a person must not carry out works to a significant tree or canopy tree without a permit, unless the works comply with the council’s Tree and Canopy Protection Guidelines.
A canopy tree is one with a total trunk circumference of 110 cm or more measured 1.5 m above the ground, a multi-stemmed tree whose combined circumference reaches 110 cm at that height, or any tree 150 cm around at ground level. Removal goes through a Tree Removal Permit application, and the council may ask for an arborist’s or engineer’s evidence for claims about condition or damage.
Significant trees are also protected through Schedule 2 to the Environmental Significance Overlay in the planning scheme, and the state canopy-tree clause covers the residential zones.

Across Victoria since 15 September 2025
Clause 52.37 Canopy Trees
A canopy tree is a tree more than 5 m tall, with a trunk circumference over 0.5 m at 1.4 m above the ground and a canopy at least 4 m across. In a residential zone a planning permit is needed to remove, destroy or lop one in a residential zone if the lot is vacant, or, where there is an existing house, if any part of the trunk is within 6 m of the narrowest street frontage or 4.5 m of the rear boundary.
Dead trees, emergency and safety works, maintenance pruning and listed weed species are exempt; councils usually condition a permit on planting a replacement canopy tree, and most decide these through VicSmart in about ten business days.
What this means for you: tell Api where the tree sits on the block and he will tell you whether a permit is needed before anything is cut — and where one is, we can prepare the arborist assessment the application needs.

Avondale Heights Tree Removal & Pruning — common questions
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Avondale Heights?
Yes, if it is a “canopy tree”: 110 cm or more around the trunk at 1.5 m (stems of a multi-trunk tree added together), or 150 cm at ground level. Moonee Valley’s local law requires a Tree Removal Permit for works to a canopy or significant tree, and the state canopy-tree clause applies as well. Across Victoria, Clause 52.37 Canopy Trees also applies since 15 September 2025: a planning permit is needed to remove, destroy or lop one in a residential zone if the lot is vacant, or, where there is an existing house, if any part of the trunk is within 6 m of the narrowest street frontage or 4.5 m of the rear boundary. Api checks both at the quote.
How much does tree removal cost in Avondale Heights?
Removal is priced on the work involved — climbing versus felling, how much has to be roped down, chipper access and stump grinding — not on the suburb. The quote is free, written, and covers the clean-up.
How long does it take?
A morning for most trees, a full day for the big ones. We do not leave a job half-done overnight.
Can you get in if the access is tight?
Yes. Sectional dismantling with rigging is designed for exactly that: a tree comes down piece by piece in a courtyard without touching a wall.
What happens to the waste?
Everything goes through our chipper on site. You can keep the mulch for the garden — it is good mulch — or we take it, along with the logs, and it goes to a green-waste recycler.
Can you save the tree instead of removing it?
That is the first question Api asks himself when he quotes. A healthy tree is worth keeping — for shade, for the street and for the value of the property — and good pruning is cheaper than removal. When it cannot be saved, he explains why.
