Tree removal and pruning in Rowsley, done properly
Rowsley homeowners call Aps Tree Removal for three things: a tree that has to go, a tree that needs a proper prune to stay safe, and a palm nobody else wants to touch. We do all three, in Rowsley and the neighbouring suburbs of Maddingley, Bacchus Marsh and Parwan, with a qualified arborist on every job and a clean-up that leaves the yard tidier than we found it.
The nearest suburbs we also cover are Maddingley (5 km), Bacchus Marsh (8 km), Parwan (9 km), so a job in Rowsley is often paired with one next door. 2 of the reviews on this site are from customers in Maddingley, Bacchus Marsh and Parwan, next door to Rowsley.
Storm-damaged and dangerous trees get priority. A split trunk, a hung-up limb or a tree that has started to lean gets assessed the same day where we can, made safe, and then either removed or reduced depending on what is left of it. Api will tell you honestly whether a damaged tree in Rowsley can be saved.
Pruning is about the right cut, not the most cuts. We remove deadwood and hazard limbs, lift the canopy off roofs, sheds and driveways, thin a dense crown so wind moves through it instead of pushing on it, and clear power-line and neighbour boundaries. Trees pruned properly stay healthy and need less attention; trees hacked back sprout weak regrowth and become a bigger problem in Rowsley gardens within a couple of seasons.

A tip from Api
Before you book any tree work in Rowsley, check whether the tree needs a permit — the council rule for Moorabool is set out below. Api checks it as part of the quote and will tell you straight if a permit is needed before anything is cut.

Do you need a permit to remove a tree in Rowsley?
The rule that applies to a tree in a Rowsley garden is the Moorabool Planning Scheme — here is what it says.
Moorabool puts it bluntly on its permit page: most trees and vegetation require a planning permit to be destroyed, removed or lopped. Native vegetation falls under Victoria’s native vegetation removal regulations, which usually mean a permit and an offset, supported by a Native Vegetation Removal Report from the state tool.
Other trees can be protected for local heritage, amenity or visual significance, or because they contribute to the waterways and catchments — the Werribee River and Lerderderg run through the shire — so the overlays on a title matter more here than in the suburbs.
The residential zones of Bacchus Marsh, Darley and Maddingley also carry the state canopy-tree clause. The shire’s planning team is on (03) 5366 7100.

Clause 52.37 Canopy Trees
A canopy tree is a tree more than 5 m tall, with a trunk circumference over 0.5 m at 1.4 m above the ground and a canopy at least 4 m across. In a residential zone a planning permit is needed to remove, destroy or lop one in a residential zone if the lot is vacant, or, where there is an existing house, if any part of the trunk is within 6 m of the narrowest street frontage or 4.5 m of the rear boundary.
Dead trees, emergency and safety works, maintenance pruning and listed weed species are exempt; councils usually condition a permit on planting a replacement canopy tree, and most decide these through VicSmart in about ten business days.
What this means for you: tell Api where the tree sits on the block and he will tell you whether a permit is needed before anything is cut — and where one is, we can prepare the arborist assessment the application needs.

What clients across the Bacchus Marsh district say
Rowsley Tree Removal & Pruning — common questions
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Rowsley?
Often, yes: Moorabool’s own guidance is that most trees and vegetation require a planning permit to be removed, destroyed or lopped — native vegetation under the state regulations, with an offset, and other trees where heritage, amenity or waterway overlays apply. The state canopy-tree clause applies in Bacchus Marsh’s residential zones too. Check with the shire before anything is cut. Across Victoria, Clause 52.37 Canopy Trees also applies since 15 September 2025: a planning permit is needed to remove, destroy or lop one in a residential zone if the lot is vacant, or, where there is an existing house, if any part of the trunk is within 6 m of the narrowest street frontage or 4.5 m of the rear boundary. Api checks both at the quote.
How much does tree removal cost in Rowsley?
A small ornamental in an open yard can be a couple of hundred dollars; a large gum over a house is a day with a crew and rigging. Everything in between is quoted to the tree, free, with the clean-up and chipping included.
How long does it take?
A quote is usually within a day or two of your call, and the work within a week or two depending on the season — sooner for anything dangerous.
Can you get in if the access is tight?
Yes — we do it every week in Rowsley. Rigging, hand-carrying and a compact chipper on the street cover almost every side path in the area.
What happens to the waste?
Chipped on the day and removed. If you would like the mulch or some firewood, say so when Api quotes and we will leave it stacked where you want it.
Can you save the tree instead of removing it?
Frequently. Most “this tree has to go” calls end with a prune, because the real problem was a limb over the roof or a canopy blocking light. A structurally sound tree is worth keeping, and Api says so when it is.
