Tree removal and pruning in Werribee, done properly
Big trees, awkward trees, trees over the neighbour’s fence — Werribee has its share, and most of them are perfectly manageable with the right rigging and a crew that does this daily. Aps Tree Removal removes and prunes trees across Werribee and Wyndham Vale, Hoppers Crossing and Mambourin, quotes free, and carries full insurance so the risk is ours, not yours.
The nearest suburbs we also cover are Wyndham Vale (4 km), Hoppers Crossing (5 km), Mambourin (6 km), so a job in Werribee is often paired with one next door. 18 of the reviews on this site are from Werribee customers, and another 9 from Wyndham Vale, Hoppers Crossing and Mambourin. Going by those reviews, the work in Werribee has mostly been tree removal (10), clean-up and mulching (5), stump grinding (4) and palm removal (1).
Palms are their own job. They are heavy for their size, the fronds and seed pods are a mess, and the trunk fibre blunts saws. We take them down in short sections with the rigging set up so nothing lands where it should not, and we take the trunk away rather than leaving you with something that will not burn and will not rot.
A removal starts with a look at the tree, the access and what is underneath it. Api decides whether it can be felled in one piece — rare in a suburb like Werribee — or needs to come down in sections. A climber goes up, the limbs come off and are lowered on ropes where anything sits below, the trunk is blocked down, and the whole lot goes through the chipper on the street. The stump can be ground out the same day.

Crown thinning & shaping

A tip from Api
Get the stump quoted with the tree. Coming back for it separately costs more than doing it on the day, and a stump left in a Werribee lawn is a job you will end up paying for later anyway.

Do you need a permit to remove a tree in Werribee?
Homeowners in Werribee ask this more than anything else, so here is Wyndham’s rule as the council publishes it.
Wyndham’s Community Amenity Local Law has no clause about removing or pruning trees on private property, so for most exotic garden trees no council permit is involved — the council’s own local-law review says as much.
Native vegetation is different: a planning permit is normally required to remove, destroy or prune it under Clause 52.17 of the Wyndham Planning Scheme, unless an exemption applies — for example a lot under 4,000 m² whose title carries no tree-protection restriction.
Wyndham is also building a Significant Tree Register, and trees in a heritage or vegetation overlay have their own controls. The council’s planning team on 1300 023 411 will confirm what sits on a particular title.

Clause 52.37 Canopy Trees
A canopy tree is a tree more than 5 m tall, with a trunk circumference over 0.5 m at 1.4 m above the ground and a canopy at least 4 m across. In a residential zone a planning permit is needed to remove, destroy or lop one in a residential zone if the lot is vacant, or, where there is an existing house, if any part of the trunk is within 6 m of the narrowest street frontage or 4.5 m of the rear boundary.
Dead trees, emergency and safety works, maintenance pruning and listed weed species are exempt; councils usually condition a permit on planting a replacement canopy tree, and most decide these through VicSmart in about ten business days.
What this means for you: tell Api where the tree sits on the block and he will tell you whether a permit is needed before anything is cut — and where one is, we can prepare the arborist assessment the application needs.

Api and his team were fantastic. They were very professional, respectful and did a great job. We hired his team to trim back some high trees in our backyard and couldn't be happier with the work done. Work was done very well and quickly for the quoted amount. Highly recommended to anyone and will contact them in future if I need any work done. Thanks Api and team.

Werribee Tree Removal & Pruning — common questions
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Werribee?
Usually not for an exotic tree in a back garden: Wyndham has no local law covering trees on private land. A planning permit is needed for native vegetation (unless the lot is under 4,000 m² with no tree controls on the title), for anything on the Significant Tree Register, and for a canopy tree near the front or rear boundary under the state-wide canopy-tree clause. Across Victoria, Clause 52.37 Canopy Trees also applies since 15 September 2025: a planning permit is needed to remove, destroy or lop one in a residential zone if the lot is vacant, or, where there is an existing house, if any part of the trunk is within 6 m of the narrowest street frontage or 4.5 m of the rear boundary. Api checks both at the quote.
How much does tree removal cost in Werribee?
Removal is priced on the work involved — climbing versus felling, how much has to be roped down, chipper access and stump grinding — not on the suburb. The quote is free, written, and covers the clean-up.
How long does it take?
A quote is usually within a day or two of your call, and the work within a week or two depending on the season — sooner for anything dangerous.
Can you get in if the access is tight?
Yes — most of the trees we remove are in backyards with a standard side path. Where there is no path at all we can still do it; it takes longer and the quote reflects that.
What happens to the waste?
All of it — branches through the chipper, trunk in rounds on the truck, the yard raked and blown. If you want mulch or firewood, tell Api and we stack it where you like.
Can you save the tree instead of removing it?
Usually the answer is yes, and it is the first thing Api considers. Deadwooding, a reduction or a lift fixes most problems and costs less than removal. He will tell you if the tree is beyond that.
