Stump removal and tight access in Kurunjang, done properly
Aps Tree Removal grinds stumps in Kurunjang most weeks: old cypress bases along boundaries, the gum stump in the middle of the lawn, the palm stump nobody could shift. Api quotes them free, the crew does them in an hour or two, and the ground is left level and ready for turf, garden or paving.
The nearest suburbs we also cover are Melton (2 km), Harkness (3 km), Cobblebank (5 km), so a job in Kurunjang is often paired with one next door.
For tight access the sequence is the same with smaller gear: a compact grinder that fits a 750 mm gate, or a mini machine for courtyards. It is slower than the big grinder, but the result is identical — the stump is gone below the surface, not cut flush and left to sprout.
On the day, the crew protects anything nearby with boards and sheets, checks the ground for stones and services, and grinds the stump in passes until the cutting wheel is 300–400 mm below the surface. The main lateral roots are followed out, the grindings are raked back into the hole and mounded, and the lawn or paving around it is blown clean.

Do you need a permit to remove a tree in Kurunjang?
Kurunjang is in the Melton City Council area, and that decides whether a permit is needed before a tree comes down.
Melton sits on the Victorian Volcanic Plain, where only about one per cent of the original grasslands and grassy woodlands survive, so native vegetation is tightly controlled: a planning permit is required from the council to remove, destroy or lop it under Clause 52.17, and inside the Urban Growth Boundary Clause 52.16 and the Native Vegetation Precinct Plans in the estate structure plans apply instead.
Threatened species and habitat can also bring in the Commonwealth EPBC Act. None of that touches a planted exotic in a suburban yard.
What does apply to every residential lot is the state canopy-tree clause — large trees near the street or rear boundary need a planning permit.

Clause 52.37 Canopy Trees
A canopy tree is a tree more than 5 m tall, with a trunk circumference over 0.5 m at 1.4 m above the ground and a canopy at least 4 m across. In a residential zone a planning permit is needed to remove, destroy or lop one in a residential zone if the lot is vacant, or, where there is an existing house, if any part of the trunk is within 6 m of the narrowest street frontage or 4.5 m of the rear boundary.
Dead trees, emergency and safety works, maintenance pruning and listed weed species are exempt; councils usually condition a permit on planting a replacement canopy tree, and most decide these through VicSmart in about ten business days.
What this means for you: tell Api where the tree sits on the block and he will tell you whether a permit is needed before anything is cut — and where one is, we can prepare the arborist assessment the application needs.

Kurunjang Stump Removal & Tight Access — common questions
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Kurunjang?
For native vegetation, yes — Melton requires a planning permit to remove, destroy or lop it under Clause 52.17 (Clause 52.16 inside the growth areas), and the Commonwealth can be involved on the western grasslands. For a planted exotic tree the state canopy-tree clause is what applies, if the tree is near a boundary in a residential zone. Across Victoria, Clause 52.37 Canopy Trees also applies since 15 September 2025: a planning permit is needed to remove, destroy or lop one in a residential zone if the lot is vacant, or, where there is an existing house, if any part of the trunk is within 6 m of the narrowest street frontage or 4.5 m of the rear boundary. Api checks both at the quote.
How much does stump removal cost in Kurunjang?
Stump grinding is priced mainly on the stump’s diameter at ground level, how many there are, and the access. A single small stump in an open Kurunjang front yard is quick; a 900 mm gum stump down a side path is not. Api quotes free, and doing several at once is always cheaper per stump.
How long does it take?
One to two hours for a typical stump; a morning for a big one or a row of them. Same-week is common for Kurunjang.
Can you get in if the access is tight?
Yes. Courtyards, terraces, stumps hard against a fence or wall: standard work in Kurunjang, and quoted as such.
What happens to the waste?
The chips fill the hole; what is left over goes on the truck. You are welcome to keep them for mulch.
How deep do you grind, and can I plant or pave over the spot?
Below the surface by 300–400 mm, roots chased. Plant, turf or pave the next day; for concrete, have the grindings removed and the hole filled with compacted soil.
