Stump removal and tight access in Mambourin, done properly
Stump grinding is quick, tidy and final when it is done properly — which means below ground, roots chased, hole backfilled. That is how we do every stump in Mambourin and Manor Lakes, Wyndham Vale and Werribee, including the ones in courtyards and side passages that other operators turn down.
The nearest suburbs we also cover are Manor Lakes (2 km), Wyndham Vale (3 km), Werribee (6 km), so a job in Mambourin is often paired with one next door. 23 of the reviews on this site are from customers in Manor Lakes, Wyndham Vale and Werribee, next door to Mambourin. Going by those reviews, the work around Mambourin has mostly been clean-up and mulching (8), tree removal (7) and tree pruning (1).
For tight access the sequence is the same with smaller gear: a compact grinder that fits a 750 mm gate, or a mini machine for courtyards. It is slower than the big grinder, but the result is identical — the stump is gone below the surface, not cut flush and left to sprout.
On the day, the crew protects anything nearby with boards and sheets, checks the ground for stones and services, and grinds the stump in passes until the cutting wheel is 300–400 mm below the surface. The main lateral roots are followed out, the grindings are raked back into the hole and mounded, and the lawn or paving around it is blown clean.

A tip from Api
If the stump is near a boundary, fence or retaining wall, we grind it from the accessible side with the guard on and the neighbour’s side protected. Tell Api if the tree was a shared one — it affects who owns the job.

Do you need a permit to remove a tree in Mambourin?
Mambourin is in the Wyndham City Council area, and that decides whether a permit is needed before a tree comes down.
Wyndham’s Community Amenity Local Law has no clause about removing or pruning trees on private property, so for most exotic garden trees no council permit is involved — the council’s own local-law review says as much.
Native vegetation is different: a planning permit is normally required to remove, destroy or prune it under Clause 52.17 of the Wyndham Planning Scheme, unless an exemption applies — for example a lot under 4,000 m² whose title carries no tree-protection restriction.
Wyndham is also building a Significant Tree Register, and trees in a heritage or vegetation overlay have their own controls. The council’s planning team on 1300 023 411 will confirm what sits on a particular title.

Clause 52.37 Canopy Trees
A canopy tree is a tree more than 5 m tall, with a trunk circumference over 0.5 m at 1.4 m above the ground and a canopy at least 4 m across. In a residential zone a planning permit is needed to remove, destroy or lop one in a residential zone if the lot is vacant, or, where there is an existing house, if any part of the trunk is within 6 m of the narrowest street frontage or 4.5 m of the rear boundary.
Dead trees, emergency and safety works, maintenance pruning and listed weed species are exempt; councils usually condition a permit on planting a replacement canopy tree, and most decide these through VicSmart in about ten business days.
What this means for you: tell Api where the tree sits on the block and he will tell you whether a permit is needed before anything is cut — and where one is, we can prepare the arborist assessment the application needs.

Mambourin Stump Removal & Tight Access — common questions
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Mambourin?
Usually not for an exotic tree in a back garden: Wyndham has no local law covering trees on private land. A planning permit is needed for native vegetation (unless the lot is under 4,000 m² with no tree controls on the title), for anything on the Significant Tree Register, and for a canopy tree near the front or rear boundary under the state-wide canopy-tree clause. Across Victoria, Clause 52.37 Canopy Trees also applies since 15 September 2025: a planning permit is needed to remove, destroy or lop one in a residential zone if the lot is vacant, or, where there is an existing house, if any part of the trunk is within 6 m of the narrowest street frontage or 4.5 m of the rear boundary. Api checks both at the quote.
How much does stump removal cost in Mambourin?
Priced per stump, by size and access, no charge for the quote. Removing the grindings and backfilling with soil is a small extra if you want turf straight over the top.
How long does it take?
Quick — the set-up usually takes longer than the grinding. A few days’ notice is normally enough.
Can you get in if the access is tight?
Yes. Side paths, courtyards, terraces and stumps hard against a fence or wall are the norm in Mambourin, and we carry the gear for them.
What happens to the waste?
Grindings back in the hole, mounded to settle, surplus taken away and the site raked clean. Soil backfill on request.
How deep do you grind, and can I plant or pave over the spot?
300 to 400 mm below the surface as standard, deeper if you ask. That is enough for lawn, garden beds and paving. For a new tree in the same spot, ask for the main roots to be chased further out as well.
