Stump removal and tight access in Point Cook, done properly
Stump grinding in Point Cook (3030) is an easy job for us to slot in. Api quotes it free, and for most stumps the crew is in and out in an hour or two with the yard swept behind them.
The nearest suburbs we also cover are Seabrook (3 km), Williams Landing (5 km), Laverton (5 km), so a job in Point Cook is often paired with one next door. 7 of the reviews on this site are from Point Cook customers, and another 6 from Seabrook, Williams Landing and Laverton. Going by those reviews, the work in Point Cook has mostly been tree removal (4), clean-up and mulching (2) and tree pruning (1).
If you plan to build, pave or plant a tree in the same spot, tell Api when he quotes: we can grind deeper, remove the grindings and backfill with soil instead, or take the main roots further out so the ground is ready for what comes next.
Old, rotten stumps and stumps with a wide root plate — the cypress and pine bases common along Point Cook fences — take longer than fresh stumps but grind the same way. Palm stumps are fibrous and slow. All of that is in the quote, so the price on the day is the price Api gave you.

A tip from Api
Do not pour poison down a stump in Point Cook and wait: it takes years, it can kill the shrubs around it, and the stump still has to come out in the end. Grinding takes an hour.

Do you need a permit to remove a tree in Point Cook?
Point Cook is in the Wyndham City Council area, and that decides whether a permit is needed before a tree comes down.
Wyndham’s Community Amenity Local Law has no clause about removing or pruning trees on private property, so for most exotic garden trees no council permit is involved — the council’s own local-law review says as much.
Native vegetation is different: a planning permit is normally required to remove, destroy or prune it under Clause 52.17 of the Wyndham Planning Scheme, unless an exemption applies — for example a lot under 4,000 m² whose title carries no tree-protection restriction.
Wyndham is also building a Significant Tree Register, and trees in a heritage or vegetation overlay have their own controls. The council’s planning team on 1300 023 411 will confirm what sits on a particular title.

Across Victoria since 15 September 2025
Clause 52.37 Canopy Trees
A canopy tree is a tree more than 5 m tall, with a trunk circumference over 0.5 m at 1.4 m above the ground and a canopy at least 4 m across. In a residential zone a planning permit is needed to remove, destroy or lop one in a residential zone if the lot is vacant, or, where there is an existing house, if any part of the trunk is within 6 m of the narrowest street frontage or 4.5 m of the rear boundary.
Dead trees, emergency and safety works, maintenance pruning and listed weed species are exempt; councils usually condition a permit on planting a replacement canopy tree, and most decide these through VicSmart in about ten business days.
What this means for you: tell Api where the tree sits on the block and he will tell you whether a permit is needed before anything is cut — and where one is, we can prepare the arborist assessment the application needs.

What clients across Melbourne’s west say
Point Cook Stump Removal & Tight Access — common questions
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Point Cook?
Usually not for an exotic tree in a back garden: Wyndham has no local law covering trees on private land. A planning permit is needed for native vegetation (unless the lot is under 4,000 m² with no tree controls on the title), for anything on the Significant Tree Register, and for a canopy tree near the front or rear boundary under the state-wide canopy-tree clause. Across Victoria, Clause 52.37 Canopy Trees also applies since 15 September 2025: a planning permit is needed to remove, destroy or lop one in a residential zone if the lot is vacant, or, where there is an existing house, if any part of the trunk is within 6 m of the narrowest street frontage or 4.5 m of the rear boundary. Api checks both at the quote.
How much does stump removal cost in Point Cook?
Priced per stump by its width at ground level and how the grinder reaches it. Ask for stump grinding on the tree quote if a tree is coming out — it is much cheaper on the same visit.
How long does it take?
Quick. The grinding is usually done before the morning is out; larger jobs take half a day.
Can you get in if the access is tight?
Yes. Side paths, courtyards, terraces and stumps hard against a fence or wall are the norm in Point Cook, and we carry the gear for them.
What happens to the waste?
Grindings back in the hole, mounded to settle, surplus taken away and the site raked clean. Soil backfill on request.
How deep do you grind, and can I plant or pave over the spot?
Deep enough that nothing regrows and nothing gets in the way of what you do next — 300–400 mm as a rule. Tell Api what you plan to put there and he will grind to suit.
